SEVILLE, Spain (AP) _ Former world champion Frankie Fredericks withdrew from the final of the 200 meters at the World Championships today, citing a left hamstring injury.

The Namibian sprinter, who owns nine medals from the Olympics and Worlds, had also pulled out of his semifinal heat for the 100 on Sunday, but then returned to the Estadio Olimpico track for the 200 heats.

Fredericks's withdrawal, coupled with the absence of defending world champion Ato Boldon because of an injury, left 100-meter gold winner Maurice Greene the favorite in the 200 final, slated for tonight.
