JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ Running back Tavian Banks, sidelined since seriously injuring his left knee against Atlanta on Nov. 7, was waived Monday by the Jacksonville Jaguars after he failed his team physical.

Banks, 26, played in the first eight games last season, starting one. At the time of his injury, he was fourth on the team with 14 catches for 137 yards. He also carried 23 times for 82 yards. As a rookie in 1998 he played in six regular-season games and started a playoff game.

``Tavian has been an exemplary player for us,'' Jaguars head coach Tom Coughlin said. ``He is an absolute pleasure to coach, and he has had an extremely positive attitude from the day he arrived here.''

The Jaguars have 83 players under contract. The only unsigned player is defensive end Tony Brackens, who was designated as a franchise player.
