HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) — A man has died after he was shot and his car crashed.

News outlets report High Point Police Lt. Curtis Cheeks says first responders found 35-year-old Alphonso Macer Jr. dead on Monday. Witnesses reported that Macer was shot before his vehicle struck a utility pole and flipped on its side, bringing down several power lines.

Cheeks says Macer was partially ejected from the car and pinned. He says it's unknown if Macer died from his gunshot wounds or injuries from the crash. Cheeks says Macer was shot at least twice.

An autopsy is scheduled for this week.

Police do not know why Macer was shot. No suspect information has been released. The incident remains under investigation.
