HOUSTON (AP) _ Carrizo Oil & Gas Inc. (CRZO) on Monday reported second-quarter profit of $35.3 million.

On a per-share basis, the Houston-based company said it had net income of 36 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 79 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 11 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 67 cents per share.

The energy company posted revenue of $264 million in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Nine analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $236.8 million.

Carrizo shares have risen 29 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $27.43, a climb of 85 percent in the last 12 months.
