ATLANTA (AP) — Midtown Atlanta residents shouldn't be alarmed if they hear explosions and see smoke coming from the nearby transit station Saturday night.

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, or MARTA, says it plans to conduct an emergency preparedness exercise from 10 p.m. Saturday until 3 a.m. Sunday.

MARTA says the drill will simulate a realistic crisis situation for first responders. It's set to include explosions, smoke and actors playing victims.

MARTA says the exercise helps assess the response to a crisis and to identify areas for improvement.

The exercise is hosted by MARTA's police department, in cooperation with numerous local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
