PARIS (AP) _ William of Luxembourg, the son of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, was seriously injured Sunday in a car accident near Paris, police said.
The 37-year-old prince was hospitalized and in serious condition at the Henri-Mondo hospital in the southern Paris suburb of Creteil. Hospital officials declined to comment, saying a statement would be released later Sunday by the royal family.
Police said William's small rental car hit a vehicle driving in front of it and flipped several times as it crossed the highway into oncoming traffic and crashed with an oncoming car.
William's 32-year-old wife, Sybilla, who was in the car, suffered minor injuries. Two passengers in the other car were also injured in the accident, which occurred on a highway outside Paris early Sunday morning, police said.
French President Jacques Chirac was notified of the accident and immediately called William's family in Luxembourg to inform them of the accident and the prince's condition, the presidential Elysees palace said.
