ISTANBUL, Turkey (AP) _ Hijackers commandeered an Egyptian Airlines plane shortly after takeoff from Istanbul's Ataturk airport on Tuesday, the Anatolia news agency said.

The agency said the plane, which had been destined for Cairo, was diverted to London.

Private NTV television said one hijacker armed with a knife seized control of the plane shortly after it took off at 6:16 p.m.

The television report said the man first demanded to be taken to Hamburg, Germany, then ordered the plane diverted to London.
