Mexican Actress Is Newest 'It' Girl
Dec. 20, 1997
NEW YORK (AP) _ Salma Hayek gets recognized a lot. It's just that people don't always match the name with the pretty face.
And that's OK with Hollywood's newest It Girl.
``I look in the mirror and I see a familiar, friendly face. I don't say, 'Oh, whatta chick!,'' the Mexican-born actress told In Style magazine for its January issue.
After floating into the movie world's consciousness as Antonio Banderas' sultry sidekick in ``Desperado,'' Hayek went on to play an exotic-dancing vampire in 1996's ``From Dusk to Dawn.'' In ``Fools Rush In,'' she was Matthew Perry's spunky wife.
Now she's got three movies in the works: She will star opposite Russell Crowe in ``Breaking Up,'' she's shooting ``Studio 54,'' and after that, ``The Velocity of Gary.''
