ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) _ Tampa Bay's Miguel Cairo, sidelined since April 23 with a strained right hamstring, was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Monday.

The second baseman was hitting .295 and had appeared in a franchise-best 53 consecutive games being injured in the fourth inning of a game against the Seattle Mariners. He played three games for Double-A Orlando in a rehab assignment before returning to the Devil Rays for Monday night's game at Texas.

To make room for Cairo, infielder Bobby Smith was optioned to Triple-A Durham. He was batting .151 with two homers and four RBIs.
