Deal: Alcon to invest $97M in Georgia expansion project
Nov. 10, 2017
ATLANTA (AP) — A leading eye care manufacturing company plans to invest another $97 million in suburban Atlanta as it starts the next phase of a multiyear project to expand its production capacity of contact lenses.
Gov. Nathan Deal, in a news release Thursday, said Alcon is expanding its "significant economic footprint" in the Johns Creek Area, creating even more "high-tech jobs for Georgians using our cutting-edge technological capabilities as a foundation for future innovation in eye care."
The company chose the Johns Creek facility over two Alcon overseas locations. The latest expansion is expected to create about 100 jobs in the next several years. Since 2013, Deal said Alcon had created 550 jobs and invested $550 million in the city.
Alcon is a subsidiary of pharmaceutical company Novartis, based in Basel, Switzerland.
