LEAWOOD, Kan. (AP) _ AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. (AMC) on Wednesday reported second-quarter net income of $22.2 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

The Leawood, Kansas-based company said it had profit of 17 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 12 cents per share.

The movie theater operator posted revenue of $1.44 billion in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.43 billion.

AMC Entertainment shares have risen nearly 8 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has fallen 20 percent in the last 12 months.
