Mitsubishi to Market TV With Internet Capability
Aug. 28, 1996
NORCROSS, Ga. (AP) _ Mitsubishi Consumer Electronics America Inc. next summer will sell a large-screen television with the ability to connect to the Internet.
The Mitsubishi division said Wednesday its DiamondWeb TV would be operated by a single remote.
``DiamondWeb TV will present the Internet as just another channel to the user _ switching to the Web will be as easy as changing channels,'' said Jack Osborn, president of MCEA. ``We expect that within a few years, large-screen sets without this capacity will disappear altogether.''
Mitsubishi did not say how much the 40-inch-screen televisions would cost. The company said more details would be released later.
MCEA will incorporate Motorola's MPC801 Power PC microprocessor and Microware Systems Corp.'s OS-9-based DAVID system into its DiamondWeb televisions.
