HONOLULU (AP) — A 23-year-old woman accused of fatally stabbing her Marine husband in their Hawaii home has been charged with second-degree murder.
Evelin Iturbide appeared in a Honolulu courtroom Wednesday on charges that she killed Sgt. Juan Iturbide on Sunday.
Evelin Iturbide was arrested shortly after the stabbing occurred at the couple's Honolulu apartment late Sunday night.
Juan Iturbide, of Orange, California, was taken to a hospital with a puncture wound on his neck, according to court documents. The 24-year-old food service specialist later died from the injuries. He was stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe Bay.
Evelin Iturbide first told police that she found her husband wounded, according to the documents. She told police that she heard shouting near the front door and found her husband bleeding.
She later asked to speak with an officer in private and told police that she stabbed her husband after they had been drinking and fighting. She said her husband became aggressive and began choking her, according to the court documents.
Evelin Iturbide didn't speak in court. Her bail was set at $750,000.
Public Defender Jack Tonaki, whose office is representing Evelin Iturbide, said it's too early to comment.
