Pirates Call Up Five From Minors

PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Infielder Bobby Hill, acquired recently by the Pittsburgh Pirates in a trade with the Cubs, was among five players called up Saturday from Triple-A Nashville.
Hill, outfielder J.J. Davis and right-handers Duaner Sanchez and Ryan Vogelsong were recalled, and left-hander John Grabow had his contract purchased from the Sounds.
The Pirates stayed with a 25-man roster throughout September until the Sounds were eliminated from the Pacific Coast League finals by Sacramento on Friday.
Davis, Sanchez and Vogelsong spent time with the Pirates earlier this season. Vogelsong will start one of four games against the Reds this week and could make as many as three starts before the season ends, according to manager Lloyd McClendon.
Hill had a .253 average in 64 games with the Cubs. He spent part of the 2002 season as Chicago's starting second baseman.
The Pirates dealt third baseman Aramis Ramirez and center fielder Kenny Lofton to the Cubs in July for third baseman Jose Hernandez, pitcher Matt Bruback and Hill. Bruback was later left unprotected and claimed by the Padres.
