MIAMI (AP) — Justin Turner tied a career high with five RBIs and Kenta Maeda pitched eight sharp innings to help the Los Angeles Dodgers snap a six-game losing streak by beating the Miami Marlins 7-0 this afternoon. Turner, who broke his left wrist in spring training and made his season debut Tuesday, hit a three-run double for the Dodgers' first hit in the third inning. He added a two-run double in the fourth and also singled in finishing 6 for 13 in the series.
ST LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals have put catcher Carson Kelly on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring, a setback for a team already without the injured Yadier Molina behind the plate. The Cardinals also moved pitcher Adam Wainwright from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day DL and called up catcher Steve Baron from Triple-A Memphis.
WASHINGTON (AP) — — The Washington Nationals say catcher Matt Wieters (WEE'-turz) had an operation on his left hamstring yesterday. Wieters went on the 10-day disabled list last week after injuring his hamstring in a game on May 10. He is batting .231 with three homers and seven RBIs in only 65 at-bats this season. Pedro Severino has been Washington's primary starting catcher in Wieters' place.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Nicklas Backstrom could return to the Capitals' lineup tonight for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference final against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Backstrom has missed Washington's past four games with a right hand injury. Coach Barry Trotz calls him a game-time decision. AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. (AP) — The Atlantic Coast Conference wants to expand the NCAA Tournament and change several college basketball rules. Commissioner John Swofford says the league will propose legislation to expand the NCAA Tournament from 68 to 72 teams. The league also supports moving back the 3-point line, widening the lane and having the shot clock reset to 20 seconds after offensive rebounds.
