Bus driver who fought with passenger faces firing
Dec. 27, 2014
BOSTON (AP) — The MBTA is recommending that a Boston bus driver who fought with a passenger be fired.
The female driver, whose name has not been released, was suspended following last Saturday's incident.
A video shows the two arguing before the passenger apparently spits on the driver as he gets off the bus. The argument then continues off the bus with the driver appearing to swing an object at the man, knocking him down.
A union representing drivers plans to file a grievance against the firing. The union's president, James O'Brien, tells The Boston Globe that drivers are being assaulted on a "routine basis" and the transit agency should do more to support them.
MBTA spokesman Joe Pestaturo says the driver did not give a full account of the incident when she reported it to her supervisors.
