NEWTON, Mass. (AP) — Authorities are saying a man has drowned in a lake in Massachusetts during a swim.

Prosecutors say a 28-year-old man died after apparently drowning in a Newton's Crystal Lake shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Fire officials responded to the scene around that time after a group of five people who were swimming lost track of one of their friends and called 911.

The unidentified man had been unaccounted for between 20 to 25 minutes before he was found in the water by firefighters.

He was taken to Newton Wellesley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Foul play is not suspected, but an autopsy will determine the cause of death.
