BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) _ Karyn Bye's goal snapped a third-period tie Wednesday night, leading the United States to a 4-1 victory over Canada.

The win was the United States' first over Canada since winning the gold medal at the 1998 Nagano Olympics, an eight-game span.

Bye took a pass from Cammi Granato pass, skated out in front and put in a high wrist shot with 9:42 left.

Melisa Heitzman made it a two-goal lead with 1:18 left before Tricia Dunn scored into an empty net 39 seconds later. Brandy Fisher also scored for the United States.

Nancy Drolet had Canada's lone goal.

The teams will play again Friday night at Toronto as part of the NHL All-Star weekend.
