CONCORD, N.C. (AP) _ Winston Cup points leader Tony Stewart was awarded the pole Friday for the UAW-GM Quality 500 when rain washed out qualifying.

The field for Sunday's race at Lowe's Motor Speedway was determined by car owner points.

Eighteen of 49 cars attempted to qualify Thursday night before the session was suspended.

Jerry Nadeau posted the fastest lap in that session but was bumped down to 39th because of Friday's cancellation.

Mark Martin, who trails Stewart by 72 points in the standings, will start second. He'll be followed by rookies Jimmie Johnson and Ryan Newman.
