Luxembourg PM Juncker looking for new term
Jul. 11, 2013
BRUSSELS (AP) — Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker says he hopes to return and lead a new government after he was forced to call for early elections.
Christian Democrat Juncker met with Grand Duke Henri on Thursday to discuss elections likely in the fall after his coalition with Socialists fell apart over a secret service scandal that happened under his watch.
Juncker said he "very much" hoped to run again but was waiting for the go-ahead of his party late Thursday.
Juncker has been prime minister since 1995 and is the longest reigning government leader in the European Union. He was head of the eurogroup of nations that share the EU's common currency between 2005 and early this year.
The Grand Duchy of 515,000 people borders France and Germany.
