HAMPTON, Va. (AP) _ Freshman reserve Tarvis Williams scored 19 points Thursday, including critical free throws in the final minutes, as Hampton beat Morgan State 75-73.

Hampton (3-3, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) led 74-69 with 1:06 left after a 3-pointer by Greg Brown and two free throws by Williams. Morgan State (0-8, 0-1) cut the lead to 74-71 on a jumper by Jerad Rucker with 58 seconds left and then fouled Damany Smith, who missed both free throws.

Given new life, Rucker responded with a layup to cut the Pirates' lead to 74-73 one second later. But the Bears where not able to close as Brown made 1-of-2 free throw with one second left.

Doug Belton added 15 points for the Pirates, while Torrey Farrington had 13, and Brown 12.

Rasheed Sparks led Morgan State with 18 points, while Jimmy Fields and Rucker scored 12 apiece and Tremaine Byrd added 10.
