Seventh Mississippi prison inmate dies this month
Aug. 20, 2018
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi's prison system says an inmate has died while at a hospital outside a prison.
The Department of Corrections says 29-year-old Lucious Bolton died Wednesday at Allegiance Specialty Hospital in Greenville.
Bolton is the seventh inmate to die in the custody of the state prison system this month.
Bolton had been serving a 14-year sentence for burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was imprisoned at Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman before he was taken to the hospital.
The department says it's awaiting an autopsy to determine how Bolton died.
The Sun Herald reports Bolton was on probation for burglary when Moss Point police found him with a gun. A judge revoked his probation in February, sending him to prison.
