PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Kellii Taylor scored 18 points and Vonteego Cummings 15 as Pitt defeated Marathon Oil 82-65 in an exhibition game Friday.

The two guards helped the Panthers make up for the loss of forward Chad Varga, who suffered a stress fracture of his foot during the second day of practice.

Taylor made the first basket after nearly four minutes of play, and the Panthers pulled ahead 13-2 at 11:25. Cummings' 3-pointer at the buzzer gave Pitt a 32-27 halftime edge.

The Panthers extended the lead to as much as 21 points in the second half.

Marathon's top scorer was Mike Mitchell with 18 points.
