Arrest made in shooting of Worcester store clerk
Apr. 25, 2013
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Worcester police say they have captured the man suspected of shooting a city convenience store clerk in the face during a robbery.
Authorities allege 18-year-old Jaiquan Harris was also involved in the robbery and attempted robbery of two other Honey Farms convenience stores, one of them 15 minutes before the 66-year-old clerk was shot on April 17.
The Telegram & Gazette (http://bit.ly/12oC89M) reports Harris was arraigned Thursday on charges including attempted murder and held until a dangerousness hearing on Monday.
Prosecutor Terrence Reidy said a second man involved in the robbery took money from cash register and Harris shot the clerk at close range when he said he didn't have access to a safe. Defense attorney Michael Hussey said Harris denies being involved.
The clerk, shot in the eye, is recovering.
Police are seeking the second suspect.
