LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) _ Stericycle Inc. (SRCL) on Thursday reported second-quarter net income of $27.7 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Lake Forest, Illinois-based company said it had profit of 31 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and amortization costs, were $1.17 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.13 per share.

The medical waste management company posted revenue of $883.3 million in the period, which did not meet Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $896.1 million.

Stericycle expects full-year earnings in the range of $4.35 to $4.55 per share, with revenue in the range of $3.45 billion to $3.54 billion.

Stericycle shares have climbed slightly more than 4 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen nearly 6 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $70.97, a decline of roughly 7 percent in the last 12 months.
