SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Springfield man has been convicted of shooting his friend outside a Ludlow bar last year.

The Republican (http://bit.ly/2uDGhxx ) reports that a Hampden Superior Court jury on Thursday found 22-year-old Jorge Concepcion-Pesquera guilty of second-degree murder in the March 2016 killing of Larry Santiago Jr.

Prosecutors say the men had an argument and Santiago was shot while sitting in his SUV outside the bar on March 13, 2016.

Concepcion-Pesquera is scheduled to be sentenced Friday. A second-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Witnesses testified that Concepcion-Pesquera and Santiago were friends.

The defendant's lawyer called it a case of mistaken identity and said his client did not kill the victim.

It was the first homicide in Ludlow in nearly a decade.
