EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah (AP) — A Utah mayor has resigned from office.

The Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/2w4a6US ) Eagle Mountain Mayor Chris Pengra will step down from his post Aug. 18. He says he has accepted a position with Rocky Mountain Power electricity company as its economic development director. He will start his new role Aug. 21.

The mayor had previously said that he would not seek reelection.

City council is preparing to appoint a new mayor during a special meeting in August. The city recorder says people interested in serving as mayor have until Aug. 10 to submit a written statement of interest.

The interim mayor will hold the position until January, when a newly elected mayor will take office.
