STORRS, Conn. (AP) _ Diana Taurasi scored 21 points and No. 4 Connecticut beat Georgetown 69-51 Saturday.
The Huskies (11-1, 2-0 Big East) were playing at home for the first time since having their 69-game home winning streak snapped by Duke last Sunday, and falling from the No. 1 spot.
Trailing by three at the half, UConn got consecutive 3-pointers from Taurasi in a 21-3 run to open the second half and seize control. The Hoyas (7-6, 1-2) failed put together consecutive field goals in the second half.
Varda Tamoulianis led Georgetown with 13 points. She and Rebekkah Brunson grabbed seven rebounds apiece.
Maria Conlon added 12 points for UConn and Ann Strother had a career-high eight assists.
Both teams struggled in the first half. The Huskies made their first two baskets, then missed 13 straight shots over the next seven minutes. The Hoyas capitalized with a 10-0 run, fueled by seven points from Tamoulianis, but they quickly cooled off with an eight-minute scoring drought.
Taurasi missed her first six shots. Her 3-pointer with 5:54 left in the half cut the Georgetown lead to 15-14. UConn went ahead on its next possession with a 3-pointer from Conlon. The teams traded baskets down the stretch and Brunson's jumper at the buzzer gave the Hoyas a 29-26 lead at the break and their last lead of the game.
