GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) — A northern Indiana city hit by record February flooding has landed a $25,000 gift to help residents repair their flood-damaged homes.
Goshen city officials received the donation last week from United Way of Elkhart County. That gift means more than $52,000 has now been raised through donations by community members to help residents with repairs in the city about 25 miles southeast of South Bend.
The Elkhart Truth reports that city officials will now match those funds to bring the total raised for that effort to nearly $105,000.
Local nonprofit housing agency LaCasa Inc. is administering the flood-repairs program to help homeowners replace or repair their furnaces and water heaters, buy new sump pumps or dehumidifiers and make other repairs.
