SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Mariners will be looking to start a new win streak and edge ahead of the Astros in the American League West when they return home to host the Angels tonight. The Mariners are 8-2 in their last 10. The Angels sit 4 and a-half games back in the AL West, after taking a loss in Minneapolis yesterday. But they've won seven of their last 10.
PHOENIX (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates can climb back to .500 with a win tonight, but it won't be easy. They're in Arizona to face the National League West-leading Diamondbacks and star Paul Goldschmidt. The first baseman struggled badly to start the season, but has found his form at the plate in recent days. Goldschmidt tripled and doubled yesterday, and went 8 for 13 with four home runs and nine RBIs in a three-game weekend sweep at Colorado.
MIAMI (AP) — San Francisco ace Madison Bumgarner makes his second start of the season, pitching at Miami this evening. The lefty broke the pinkie on his throwing hand in his final spring training game but returned to the rotation last week, tossing six strong innings in a loss to Arizona. Miami is coming off a pair of losses and sits last in the National League East.
DETROIT (AP) — Two people familiar with the situation tell The Associated Press that the Detroit Pistons have agreed to a five-year contract with Dwane Casey to become the new head coach. Casey led the Toronto Raptors to a franchise-record 59 wins this year and helped them earn the top seed in the Eastern Conference for the first time. The NBA coach of the year finalist was fired shortly after Toronto was swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — It's Dustin followed by two Justin's atop the world golf ranking. Dustin Johnson emphatically reclaimed No. 1 Sunday, holing out for eagle from 170 yards on the final hole for a six-stroke victory in the St. Jude Classic. Justin Thomas is second, while Justin Rose is third.
