Four Dead in Building Collapse in Britain

ASHFORD, England (AP) _ A three-story office building under renovation collapsed Tuesday, killing four construction workers.
Two of the bodies were recovered Tuesday and the other two early Wednesday morning. More than 30 firefighters participated in the search in the rubble, aided by thermal-imaging cameras and a 25-ton crane.
The building in Ashford, a suburb west of London, collapsed shortly after the construction workers returned from lunch. It was empty except for the construction crew.
Laborers refurbishing a neighboring building rushed to help.
``We heard a crash and saw the building collapsing. There was dust rising and we rushed off our scaffolding to try and help,'' said foreman Dave Yewer, 45.
``We started dragging the rubble with our bare hands, but that building was reinforced and we could only get little bits,'' he said.
The cause of the collapse was under investigation.
