DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) _ Brandon Lyon pitched six solid innings and Eric Hinske hit a three-run double as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 Saturday in the final spring training game for both teams.
Hinske's double in the sixth off starter Jimmy Anderson put the Blue Jays up 5-1.
Pirates manager Lloyd McClendon thinks Anderson, his No. 3 starter, is ready to improve after losing 17 games in 2001.
``I thought on the whole he has pitched well this spring, but you never know until the kids step on the field and perform. He looks like he's ready to step forward this year,'' McClendon said.
Lyon, whose next start is April 5 against Minnesota, allowed two runs and three hits.
``It's good to throw well going into the season, hopefully it continues next week,'' he said. ``It felt like I could just go out and throw my stuff, just throw strikes. I was getting ground balls outs.''
Craig Wilson homered in the fourth and Keith Osik ended Lyon's day with a leadoff homer in the seventh.
Jerrod Kingery pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save of the spring.
Notes: Blue Jays LHP Mike Sirotka will accompany the team for the opening series in Boston, then will continue his rehab with Dr. Tony Miniaci in Toronto for at least a week. ... Toronto will work out Sunday morning in Dunedin before leaving for Boston.
