KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ The Cleveland Indians recalled left-hander Alex Herrera from Double-A Akron on Friday and optioned infielder Earl Snyder to Triple-A Buffalo.
Herrera, who was out for two weeks in April with the chicken pox, was 0-0 with a 1.13 ERA in six relief appearances with Akron and Buffalo. He gave up seven hits and struck out 10 in eight innings.
Herrera, 22, has never pitched in the major leagues.
Snyder was 3-for-16 (.188) in six games with the Indians, his first stint in the major leagues.
Indians left-hander Ricardo Rincon, the losing pitcher Thursday at Kansas City, returned to Veracruz, Mexico for the weekend to attend a family commitment. He is to rejoin the club Tuesday in Cleveland.
