Tips for people who want to run in New Year's Eve races where the weather could be cold:
_ To prevent frostbite, keep extremities and all skin covered. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in 15 minutes or less when the wind chill is around minus 20.
_ Wear layers of wicking material such as Lycra or microfiber to keep moisture away from skin.
_ Beware of slippery surfaces and start slowly; use shorter strides. Several shoe makers have ridged or studded running shoes for good traction.
_ Warm up and stretch before and after.
