Coroner: Inmate kills himself in South Carolina jail

GREER, S.C. (AP) — A coroner says an inmate in a city jail in South Carolina has killed himself.
Greenville County Deputy Coroner Kent Dill said in a news release that 50-year-old Phillip Ray Waters of Greer died shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Greer Police Lt. Patrick Fortenberry said both the coroner's office and the State Law Enforcement Division are investigating the death.
Emergency medical workers were unable to revive the man.
The coroner's office said Waters' death has been ruled a suicide.
It was not immediately clear why Waters was in jail.
