BOSTON (AP) — A federal jury has awarded a former Harvard visiting scholar $3.5 million in a libel suit that claimed a mother and daughter publicly accused the woman of fabricating her credentials.
The Boston Globe (http://bit.ly/29W92Hv ) reports the verdict was announced in Boston Wednesday in Hayat Sindi's case against Samia El-Moslimany and her mother, Ann.
Sindi's suit said the women engaged in a campaign to "publicly destroy" her by spreading lies on the internet and in emails to her professional associates. The dispute stemmed from allegations involving Samia El-Moslimany's husband.
It said the women claimed the Saudi Arabian scientist exaggerated her role in the development of a diagnostic tool at a Harvard laboratory and bought or plagiarized her doctoral degree.
The Moslimanys and their lawyer didn't respond to requests for comment Wednesday.
