More rains forecast for Illinois as flooding continues
Feb. 22, 2018
CHICAGO (AP) — Flood warnings remain in effect for rivers in central and northern Illinois after heavy rains earlier this week as National Weather Service forecasters say more precipitation is expected.
On Thursday morning the Illinois River was at major flooding stage in Ottawa and Morris, along with the Iroquois River in Iroquois. Moderate flooding was reported along the Pecatonica, Rock, Kankakee, DuPage and Des Plaines rivers, among others.
The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports that emergency responders rescued one woman when her SUV went into the Salt Fork outside Champaign. Authorities say the woman was able to get out of the vehicle and grab onto a tree before rescuers in a canoe reached her.
Weather service forecasters say more rain is expected through Saturday, ranging from less than an inch in northern Illinois to 3 to 4 inches in far southern Illinois.
