BOSTON (AP) — A home explosion in Massachusetts has sent one person to the hospital with severe burns.
Boston police say a bomb squad responded to an explosion Sunday morning at a three-floor residence in East Boston.
Firefighters responded to the home after hearing a report of a fire, and found an explosion started a fire in the building. The flames were put out quickly.
A second floor apartment unit is damaged extensively, with windows blown out. A man living on the second floor suffered second-degree burns to his legs and was taken to the hospital. Other residents were evacuated.
Police Commissioner William B. Evans says an assault rifle was found in the building. The FBI, bomb and arson squads are all involved in the investigation. City inspectors are assessing the structural integrity of the home.
