State fair to bring thousands of people to Bangor, Maine
Jul. 30, 2017
BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Maine's Queen City is holding its annual celebration of agriculture and recreation with a state fair that is one of the oldest events of its kind in the state.
The Bangor State Fair began on Friday and lasts until Aug. 6. It's expected to draw more than 40,000 people, which is more than the population of the city.
The state fair's organizers say the event dates back at least as far as the mid-1800s. It will include animal exhibits such as ox and horse pulling, 4-H contests and a midway. It takes place at Cross Insurance Center and Bass Park.
The Bangor fair is happening at about the same time as the Northern Maine Fair in Presque Isle, which began on Friday and runs to Aug. 5.
