NEW YORK (AP) _ Stocks that were moving substantially or trading heavily Friday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market.


Hertz Corp., down $4.81 at $25.81

The car rental company said third- and fourth-quarter earnings will likely fall below analysts' expectations. Third-quarter figures were predicted at $1.30 a share, less than the $1.43 projected by analysts. And fourth-quarter earnings are seen at 51 cents a share, below expectations of 63 cents.

Uno Restaurant, down $1.56 at $8.13

The company expects fourth-quarter and fiscal year earnings to fall below Wall Street's expectations. Uno cited softness in comparable-store sales, higher costs from an accelerated opening schedules and one less week of operations.

Nordstrom, down $1.69 at $18.94

Members of the Nordstrom family have returned to operate the retailing chain in the wake of resignations by the company's chairman-chief executive and chief financial officer. Blake Nordstrom was named president, and Bruce Nordstrom chairman. Several Wall Street analysts downgraded the stock on the news.


Viant Corp., down $5.69 at $8.19

The Internet consulting company warned it expects to report a loss for the third quarter ending Sept. 29. The company was expected to earn 8 cents a share.

Bid.Com International, up 59.4 cents at $2.75

The online auction company said it expects a $15.6 million gain from the sale of its minority stake in Quack.Com to America Online.

Versicor, up $2.06 at $13.75

The biopharmaceutical company was rated ``buy'' in new coverage by an analyst at Lehman Brothers. The analyst said he expects the stock to reach 27 in a year.
