Man Kills Wife, Self and Wounds Neighbor in Afternoon Shootout
May. 28, 1990
HYDE PARK, N.Y. (AP) _ A man shot and killed his wife after an argument and wounded a neighbor Sunday before killing himself with a 12-gauge shotgun, police said.
Dutchess County Sheriff Fred Scoralick said his office was called just before 2 p.m. about the shooting in this upstate New York community.
Milton Thorp, 46, shot and killed his wife, Beverly, 51, and seriously wounded a neighbor, Shelley Dingee, 30, Scoralick said.
Dingee, who was shot in the right shoulder, was listed in stable condition Sunday night at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, hospital officials said.
The Thorps apparently had argued and Beverly Thorp went next door to talk to Dingee in her back yard, Scoralick said. Milton Thorp apparently stood in the bed of a pickup truck in his back yard and shot the two women before going in his home and shooting himself, Scoralick said.
The Thorps were pronounced dead at the scene.
