ASUNCION, Paraguay (AP) _ Ailton scored the only goal in the 61st minute Wednesday as Brazil's Sao Caetano took firm control of the final of the Copa Libertadores _ South America's leading club tournament _ with a 1-0 victory against Paraguay's Olimpia.
Sao Caetano, a club founded in 1989, is playing in the tournament for only the second time.
It was a difficult loss for Olimpia, the two-time South American champions which will celebrate its 100th birthday Thursday. Olimpia has been the losing finalist in three Copa Libertadores tournaments.
The second leg will be Aug. 1 in Sao Paolo. The winner of the final will face European champion Real Madrid in Japan on Dec. 3 in the Toyota Cup.
