CHICAGO (AP) _ New York Yankees right fielder Paul O'Neill was ejected in the fourth inning of Sunday's game against the Chicago White Sox, moments after he threw his bat and helmet following a strikeout.

O'Neill was upset with a called strike two by plate umpire Terry Craft. After he struck out swinging, O'Neill threw his bat and helmet and went back to the dugout.

Seconds later, Craft gave the ejection sign and an angry O'Neill came racing back to the field at full speed toward Craft.

New York manager Joe Torre also came out to argue as first-base umpire Tim McClelland tried to keep O'Neill away from Craft. O'Neill had questioned a strike call during his first at-bat in the first inning, when he also struck out.

Felix Jose replaced O'Neill in first place.
