EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) _ Jelani McCoy, the former UCLA center who spent the last three seasons with Seattle, signed with the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday.

McCoy, a free agent, signed a one-year agreement with the two-time defending NBA champion Lakers, team spokesman John Black said.

McCoy averaged 4.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in 70 games for the Sonics last season.

The 6-foot-10 McCoy was taken by Seattle in the second round of the 1998 NBA draft, making him the 33rd player selected that year.

He left UCLA after his junior year. His career shooting percentage of 69.4 percent broke Bill Walton's school record of 65.1 percent, and McCoy set another school career mark by blocking 188 shots during his three seasons.

Financial terms of his contract were not announced.
