Old Illinois theater getting new projectors

DU QUOIN, Ill. (AP) — The old Grand Theatre in Du Quoin is about to get a technological face lift.
Richie Baker owns the theater in the southwest Illinois town. He tells The Southern Illinoisan (http://bit.ly/1rIvokJ ) that two new digital projectors are on the way at a cost of $70,000. They should be up and running in mid-August.
Baker said the demand for expensive digital projection has forced many independent theater operators out of business. He's getting a hand from the city of Du Quoin with a $20,000 loan.
The theater has also gotten some fresh paint on the outside and some new marquee lights.
The Grand was built in the 1880s and burned down twice before being rebuilt in its present form in the 1920s. It is the only movie theater in Perry County.
