Michigan Woman Charged With Murder
Sep. 13, 2001
ZEELAND, Mich. (AP) _ Two young sisters were found stabbed to death in the neck and chest in a bedroom of their home. Their mother has been charged with murder.
Tracy Camburn, 38, was arraigned on the charges Tuesday.
Police said they found the bodies of Candice Camburn, 10, and Kimberly Camburn, 5, Monday night after their father phoned police to say he believed his ex-wife had killed their daughters.
Police would not say what prompted his suspicions or whether Tracy Camburn had made threats.
``They were normal sweet kids. No red flags went up regarding their care,'' said Jim Camenga, spokesman for the Zeeland Public Schools, which the girls attended.
Tracy Camburn's attorney, John Moritz, represented her in her divorce proceedings.
``She is the last person I would ever expect to be in this situation,'' Moritz said. ``I think that we all need to reserve judgment on this until the truth is known.''
