WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Current assistant John Plumtree will succeed Chris Boyd as head coach of the Wellington-based Hurricanes from the end of the 2018 Super Rugby season.
Boyd, who coached the Hurricanes for three years from 2015, guiding them to their first Super Rugby title in 2016, is leaving to coach the England club Northampton.
Plumtree, who has been Boyd's assistant for the past three years, has been appointed on a three year contract while Jason Holland has been appointed assistant coach, also for the next three years.
Hurricanes chief executive Avan Lee said Plumtree and Holland would form "a formidable coaching combination."
Plumtree has previously been head coach of Swansea and the Durban-based Sharks and assistant coach of Ireland, Munster and Canterbury.
