NEW YORK (AP) _ Stock prices opened modestly higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 21 points in Tuesday's early going. Advancing issues on the New York Stock Exchange hold a 2 to 1 lead over decliners.

The Nasdaq Composite Index was ahead 7 points and the Standard and Poor's 500 Stock Index was up 1 point.

Wall Street benefitted from earnings reported by two Dow Jones Industrial Average components. DuPont posted a 24 percent increase in second quarter profits. And McDonald's reported second-quarter earnings in line with expectations on revenue that beat the consensus estimate.

But gains were expected to be modest as investors await new economic data with the potential to move the market. The Conference Board will release its measure of consumer confidence for July. Later in the week, key market influences will be reports on regional economic indicators, gross domestic product, employment and manufacturing activity.
