AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) _ Jake Campbell scored three touchdowns, two in a 21-point third quarter that changed a defensive battle into a rout as Air Force beat Fresno State 42-7 on Saturday.
With Campbell scoring on runs of 3 and 7 yards and quarterback Preston McConnell adding a 54-yard TD run, the Falcons turned a 14-7 halftime lead into a 35-7 advantage.
Campbell's other touchdown was a 67-yard run that gave Air Force (4-3, 3-2 Western Athletic Conference) a 14-0 lead late in the first half.
Fresno State (4-4, 2-2) got little from running back Jerome Oliver and Air Force kept constant pressure on quarterbacks Rich Donati and Adrian Claiborne. Donati, who hadn't been intercepted in 100 passes this season, was picked off on the first play of the game and had another intercepted in the third quarter. Air Force scored quickly after linebacker Steve Walker picked off Donati's pass at the 33 on the first play. Six plays later, Jeremy Johnson ran in from the 2.
The game then settled into a defensive battle until late in the second quarter when Campbell cut inside on a pitch and raced 67 yards for a touchdown with 3:05 left in the half.
The Bulldogs marched right back, going 77 yards in a drive that ended with Donati's 22-yard TD pass to Charlie Jones 52 seconds before halftime.
Campbell, who ended with a career-high 149 yards on 15 carries, swept in from the 3 to cap an 85-yard drive highlighted by McConnell's 63-yard scramble to the Fresno 15. After McConnell, who had 143 yards on 10 carries, madfe it 28-7, Campbell capped the big quarter with a 7-yrad run.
At the end of the third quarter, before both teams cleared their benches, Air Force had 409 rushing yards to zero for Fresno State.
Donati left the game with 164 passing yards, completing 17-of-26.
