Apr. 12, 2016
STANTON, Del. (AP) — Federal officials are asking Delaware to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a Maryland man outside a psychiatric hospital.
The News Journal reports (http://delonline.us/1Swe4sY ) that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services asked the state to intervene after the death of 38-year-old Clay McInnis III of Elkton, Maryland. Department of Health and Social Services spokeswoman Jill Fredel says the investigation will involve reviewing records and interviewing employees.
Delaware State Police say McInnis was found dead near the Rockford Center on March 29. Police and the Medical Examiner's Office won't disclose how he died.
Mike Vanscoy, a friend, says that he took McInnis to Rockford on March 28 in distress. But when Vanscoy called the next day, he says he was told McInnis was found dead nearby that morning.
